Your inner compass and why you should ask it more often
In a world that is spinning ever faster and in which everyone constantly wants something from you - notifications, social media, work, family - it can feel like an art to listen to your inner voice. However, this voice, also known as intuition, has superpowers: it shows you the way that your mind often overlooks because of all the to-do lists. The good news is that we all have the ability to strengthen our intuition. The bad news is that we have all learned to ignore it.
But don't worry! Intuition is like a muscle - the more you use it, the stronger it gets. So, time to activate your inner compass and get started!
What exactly is intuition? (Spoiler: It knows more than you do)
Intuition is your unconscious super-brain algorithm. It works without much thought and often gives you the right answer before you have even started the process of conscious thinking. This 'gut feeling' is based on all the experiences and patterns that you have gathered over the course of your life - even if you cannot consciously recall them.
Intuition is often subtle. It can be as simple as choosing between two dishes or as complex as a major life decision. The most important thing is: Intuition needs space to be heard. It is like a silent advisor in the background, always waiting for you when you are ready to listen.
It is the mouthpiece of your soul 😉
Fear vs. intuition: the eternal showdown
While intuition sits relaxed and calm in the corner, casually drinking a coffee and telling you: "Do this, it feels right", fear stands by like an overprotective friend and screams: "NO! No way! You could fail!"
Intuition is wise, patient and solution-oriented. It knows the way, even if you can't see it yet. Fear, on the other hand, is restless, hectic and often blocks any progress because it wants to keep you in the "safe" comfort zone. While intuition moves you forward, fear tends to keep you stuck. But this is exactly where the opportunity lies: the better you recognize the difference, the easier it becomes to trust your intuition.
10 tips for following your intuition (and listening less to the panicky friend in your head)
1. in the here and now
To follow your intuition, you have to live in the moment. Too often we are caught up in thoughts about the future or the past. But intuition speaks in the here and now. By meditating regularly, you create a clear mind and strengthen the connection to your inner self. Only in the present can you perceive your true needs and inner impulses.
TipI never tire of saying it: set yourself a daily meditation practice, even if it's only five minutes. This quiet time helps to calm the constant chaos of thoughts and to become more aware of your inner voice.
2. errors are detours with viewpoints
Fear of making mistakes often blocks you more than the mistake itself. We are afraid of making the wrong decisions and then regret not having chosen the "right" path. But what is the right path? The one that others take? Mistakes are an opportunity for growth and self-discovery. They help you to adjust your philosophy of life and make your path more authentic.
TipIf you listen to your intuition and things don't go as planned, consider it a valuable lesson. Because every failure holds growth and experience that you couldn't learn any other way.
3. beliefs need an update
Deep-rooted beliefs often block us from trusting our intuition. "I'm not good enough" or "What if I'm wrong?" are common belief patterns. To follow your intuition, you need to question and change these beliefs.
TipFind out where your insecurities come from. Which beliefs have you adopted from others? Start to uninstall this "software" and implement new, supportive belief patterns.
4. use emotions as a guide
Anger, frustration, envy or jealousy are emotions that provide valuable clues as to what is out of balance in your life. These emotions are trying to tell you something - use them as signposts. Ask yourself: Why am I angry? Why am I envious? Your intuition often shows you that you are striving for more fulfillment and joy in life.
TipPay attention to which emotions keep haunting you. Write them down and find out what these feelings are trying to tell you. This way you can find out which areas of your life need more attention.
5. mental hygiene: clearing the mind
A clear mind is the basis for a strong intuition. Mental carousels, excessive demands and stress block access to your inner voice. By practicing mental hygiene regularly - through meditation, journaling or exercise - you create space for your intuition. I give this tip in all my blog articles 😉
TipMake journaling a daily practice. Write down thoughts and feelings that are bothering you. In this way, you can identify blockages and promote your inner clarity.
6. relationships: Your gut has something to say here too
Your intuition often shows itself in relationships too. It helps you to resolve conflicts and find out what you really need. Ask yourself: What is my gut feeling telling me? You may be afraid of disappointing someone, but your intuition will show you the way to a more authentic relationship.
TipTake the time to be honest with yourself and clearly communicate your needs in relationships. Your intuition will help you to find the right words.
7 Embodiment: Involving the body
Your body is a powerful key to intuition. Embodiment means incorporating the wisdom of your body into decision-making processes. Feel inside yourself: Does a decision feel light and open or does it cause stress and tension?
TipTrain yourself to listen to your body by consciously focusing on physical sensations. Physical reactions such as abdominal pain or a relaxed heartbeat will give you clear clues.
8. gratitude as a boost and self-reflection
Gratitude is the turbo for your intuition. By being grateful for what you have, you strengthen your trust in the flow of life. At the same time, you should regularly engage in self-reflection to understand when you have followed your intuition and what the results have been.
Tip: Keep a gratitude diary and write down when you followed your intuition. Reflect on the positive changes that have resulted.
9. learn the art of letting go
To make room for your intuition, you need to let go of old patterns. This is especially true for the fear of making the wrong decisions. Letting go means freeing yourself from fear and surrendering to the infinite possibilities.
TipPractice letting go by consciously focusing on the here and now. Also think about who you can still forgive from your past. Making peace with old times can be very liberating. Autobiographical awareness work can help, as can meditation and mindfulness exercises.
10. manifesting and realizing dreams
Intuition is not passive - it wants you to be active! Use your inner voice to manifest your dreams. Deal with your deepest desires and follow the impulses that your intuition gives you.
TipWrite down your dreams and plan concrete steps on how you can achieve them. Your intuition will show you the right way, but you have to take the first steps yourself.
Conclusion: off to new shores (even if fear tells you they are too stormy)
Following your intuition means building a deeper connection to yourself. It requires trust and courage to let go of old fears, but it also opens the way to more joie de vivre, fulfillment and an authentic, self-determined life. So, grab your inner navigation system, listen to the quiet, wise voice and set off on your journey - it's okay for fear to take a break.
